About the Challenge

UpcycleCHQ is a community-powered innovation challenge and event hosted in Chautauqua County, New York, designed to transform the way we view waste. Organized by GreenClusta Technologies and the GreenClusta App, UpcycleCHQ brings together creators, students, entrepreneurs, artists, farmers, and innovators to reimagine waste as a resource—especially textile and local material waste—through the power of upcycling.

At its heart, UpcycleCHQ is more than an event; it’s a movement to ignite creativity, promote sustainability, and grow the circular economy from the ground up.

Over 11 million tons of textile waste end up in U.S. landfills each year. This challenge empowers our community to turn that waste into opportunity while inspiring creativity, economic growth, and environmental resilience.

♻️ Waste Is a Local and Global Crisis

Every year, millions of pounds of textiles, plastics, and usable materials are thrown away—clogging landfills, polluting waterways, and harming ecosystems. In places like Chautauqua County, much of this waste could be transformed into functional, valuable, or even beautiful resources.

💡 Creativity Is the New Currency

Waste isn’t just a problem—it’s an opportunity. UpcycleCHQ taps into the power of local creativity to transform discarded items into innovative products, sustainable businesses, and community-driven solutions. It empowers people of all ages to see waste not as trash, but as raw material for change.

🌍 Local Action, Global Impact

By building circular economy skills at the local level, UpcycleCHQ helps rural communities become more resilient, self-reliant, and future-ready. The ripple effect of these actions extends beyond Chautauqua—contributing to climate action, economic revitalization, and a global culture of reuse.

👥 Community Empowerment

This isn’t just about recycling. It’s about restoring dignity and value to human hands and imagination. UpcycleCHQ creates space for youth, makers, artists, and small businesses to shine—while connecting neighbors, sparking collaboration, and fostering pride in our shared environment.

  • Promote circular economy thinking
  • Divert textile waste from landfills
  • Empower youth, creators, and entrepreneurs
  • Foster local innovation & green job creation

UpcycleCHQ empowers communities to transform waste into innovation through creativity, sustainability, and circular design.

We envision UpcycleCHQ as a model circular economy initiative for rural towns and small cities, showing that sustainability and innovation don’t require big budgets—just big ideas, community spirit, and a commitment to doing better with what we already have.

Whether you're a maker, a dreamer, or just someone who cares about your community and the planet, UpcycleCHQ invites you to rethink waste, reimagine value, and rebuild the future—one creation at a time.

UpcycleCHQ is a platform that challenges individuals and groups to design products, services, or business ideas using reclaimed, reused, or waste materials. Participants go through a guided journey of ideation, creation, and public presentation—with access to resources, mentorship, and visibility.

The program culminates in the UpcycleCHQ event, a vibrant showcase of ingenuity where community members come together to celebrate sustainability, creativity, and local solutions to global challenges.
